“My mom did everything on bxgrl’s housewife list but had a job as well.”
My mom, too. My sister and I are shocked to consider all the things my mother found time to do while working full-time. My father did nothing, no laundry, no cooking, no cleaning, no shopping. He came home and ate dinner, had a couple drinks, watched TV and went to bed.
etson- my mother also got a job when my sister and I were older. She had her hands full with the little hellion twins. And my father didn’t want her to get a job but she eventually defied him and got a job with the Red Cross.
Legion- Biff nailed it. You’re bending over backwards to finesse the Iraq War and you can’t. Your take on WW I is also off base. It wasn’t begun by the Allies, and Wilson should have entered the War earlier. The Isolationists are living in an alternate reality- even then, countries were interconnected by commerce, for one thing. There is no vacuum this country can operate in.
Take a step away from it and you will see my point.
Bush acted on the best intelligence out there
British
Israeli
French
US
hell even Russian.
This nation was at it’s most vulnerable and
apparently, even Saddam Hussein believed he had
weapons of mass destruction which were active.
We know he had them in the 80’s because he used
them on the khurds.
We were entering a new era of global warfare and
Bush did not have a crystal ball.
In retrospect, perhaps it would have been better to
hold off on Iraq and let Saddam continue,
but who knows if he wouldn’t have destabilized the
region anyway by seeking to invade Saudi Arabia for instance?
We’ll never know.
We do know that we are out of Iraq.
They are a functional Democracy.
They act as another piece of the puzzle surrounding
and isolating Iran between Afghanistan to the East,
and American Aircraft carriers to the south.
This story is far from over.
“There were millions and millions of people protesting (including me) and knowing it was unjust BEFORE it even started. . . . The people were lied to and many knew it at the time”
Yep. I agree with Biff on this.
And I did NOT feel the same way about the first Gulf War, where we had the support of the international community; Iraq was unquestionably the invader of Kuwait; and we tried all other means to dislodge Iraq from Kuwait before fianlly invading.
Both grandmothers always worked as well. One was in an aero engine factory during the war, but returned to her previous job as a machinist afterwards.
I think women working was more common in the region where I grew up than average. Most women of my mom’s and grandmothers’ generations worked.
the years my grandmother didnt work (which was most) while she was raising me she watcher her stories, went to daytime bingo (while i was with my free nanny), etc. i did all the cleaning until i was about 10 years old. then for some reason she started do it all. or maybe i got sick or doing it or maybe my grandfather thought it was kinda gay.. everyone in the household had their own groceries for the most part since no one liked each others food or cooking so that took care of that. oh yeah and i went to school by myself since the day i started.
“When I come home at night I basically do housework and chores nonstop until I go to sleep. I walk in the door, take off my tie, and immediately start doing dishes.”
hah – me too (except i don’t wear a tie to work – usually just take off my pants)

But, who gave you directions, *rob*???
🙂
One can never really predict how history will look upon presidents and their actions.
The most unpopular president (at the time he left office) was Harry Truman. His reputation has grown steadily since.
The War of 1812 was not a popular war in large segments of American society. This fact is rarely discussed in history.
