m4l, one thing about the schools in PS that are not 107 or 321: standardized tests, which generate the number of stars in insideschools.org, don’t start until 3rd grade. So an improving school, especially one in a gentrifying neighborhood, often has a lag before it has good test scores to report. You can look on the DOE website (schools.nyc.gov, and type in the number of the school) for any given school and go to “statistics.” Somewhere in there are grade-by-grade reports of test scores. If the 3rd graders are testing better than the 5th graders, that’s a pretty clear indication that the kids now in Kindergarten will test even better by the time they get to 3rd grade.
I have heard excellent reports about PS10 and PS39.
oh please please please summer get here soon. i cant stand the indoors in the fall and winter where everywhere keeps it so insanely HOT. it’s so gross and unnecessary. offices, banks, stores, the train, unnecessarily hot. even the tellers at the bank complain how hot they keep it in there and have fans blasting on them. the temps are way into the 80s in doors which would never be tolerated in the summer months. so uncomfortable. i was going to buy a winter coat this year but im like screw it, it’s more of a hassle than it’s worth. what is wrong with people when they keep things so hot? you cant even shop in stores or stand in line in the bank without breaking out a sweat!! sometimes i just want to move to a place like florida that has AC on all year round. i have no problem when it’s hot outside, but when it’s hot inside it’s gross. right now it feels like the middle of august with broken air conditioning.
also my apartment gets SO hot too even with the windows wide open. in my bedroom i completely shut off the radiator and leave the window wide open, yet it still gets insanely hot in there in the fall and summer (and there is no heat pipe or anything) is it just radiating from the walls?
donatella, I was just teasing you! I am an unabashedly unashamed (redundant?) texter! Though I will now be cautious about texting anywhere near you lest you smash my Crackberry.
Cgar, as a member of the tribe, you should know that Hanukkah/Chanuka starts at sunset tonight. Why are you jumping the gun? At least I know where the menorah is and have candles and appropriate gift wrap for tonight.
rob, covering your windows with aluminum foil helps.
Is this the same rob who complains bitterly whenever the temperature outside is over 65?

rf, please do NOT try and spoil my good mood today. I’m well aware that Hanukkah starts at sundown, but I’m loving the holidays. Sheesh.
😉
CatGar – I trust you’ll be bringing your famous latkes to Loko since it’s the last night of the Maccabee festival.
“eat my pickle at lunch later”
