Biff, forgot the brand but I got something that looks exactly like your pic for my in-laws. $40. I just went into hardware store in chinatown and asked them to give me a GOOD lock (vs. the ones around $20).
Maybe I should do a Forum post, but anyway…I have a surface mounted deadbolt similar to the one in this pic that I need to replace. Anyone know of a good place to get one of these? The current one is made by Franklin.
I’m worried the screws in the new one may not align with where the current screws go into the door. Is the screw hole spacing standard, regardless of the manufacturer? That would make things much easier as I can’t find too many Franklin locks online.

Remember I told you about my Chinese friend growing up. Her family owned a laundry but the oldest sister and brother were garment workers and my friend used to get great fabric remnants from her older brother and sister. She was trying to teach me how to use a sewing machine but i was pretty pathetic so I think she quit.
Donatella, think I would’ve gotten the boot from Catholic school sooner or later – ie nuns likely to hit me again with ruler and my counter punch would eventually connect. As for the wkend chinese school, I like to take credit for that. I was bored as heck there and nothing was sinking in so it was a waste of parents’ hard-earned $$$ (ie garment factory workers made peanuts) and my precious time (ie when I could be watching Sat morning cartoon or playing ball Sun mornings). Was a little surprised parents bought my pitch that I could learn chinese on my own reading chinese comic books. of course I couldnt get them to fund me those comic books

Biff, I think there is some standardization to the holes. I’ve bought deadbolts like that at HD and Lowes.
Come on up to the midtown HD in Monday and we can get lunch at Grand Sichuan.
