Biff, re screws and the hole from the cylinder alignment with installing another lock, that isn’t something to worry about really, because if the holes from previous lock don’t align, an experienced installer can repair that with woodfiller or chisel out the area on the door and rebuild it with a patch of a piece of wood and then glue and sand and you have a fresh surface on which to drill new holes.
My front door was so jacked up (put the entire lockset about 9 inches too high)by the guys my contractor put to the job of adding handsets that the fixit it carpenter had to completely fill in the wood holes they cut out of the door for the lock, make the door completely virgin and start over. It is completely fine now.
Thanks DIBS and M4L, that helps. The price sounds reasonable but I’m more worried I won’t be able to find one with a close enough fit. But I’ll bring the old one to a hardware store or HD so I can compare it. Sounds like it won’t be as big a problem as I thought.
Biff, is the whole lock broken or just the cyclinder needs replacing? most of the time, it’s just replacing the cylinder which is a cheaper and easier fix
I don’t know from locks.
But I DO know from lox!
“Besides, why does it matter that the holes align? You drill new ones and putty up the old.”
This sounds Latin to me.

m4l is right. Unless the bolt itself is broken, it’s usually just a cylinder replacement.
But all this is Forum talk and has thrown the OT of topic.
Cobble will think we’re talking sex in some form of code.

Biff:
1. You’re Jewish, so DIY stands for Dial Immediately YourContractor.
B. Bruno’s on Court Street should have what you need. And I agree with dave that the holes should be standard.

Oh, wait, you’re Jewish, right?
Biff, you somehow decide to come to midtown for the lock, come up Fri so you can join the midtown lunch club
