That’s unfortunate to hear, benson. I’ve always thought NOLA to be on the grimey side, but it’s sad that it’s been this long and progress has been slow.
Well like I and others said yesterday. Rangel did a lot for Harlem’s development in the 90’s and 00’s. I think what he did was a huge mistake, but I do not doubt there are others like him on both sides of the aisle. I guess they wanted to make an example of him.
New Orleans is looking pretty down-and-out. I’m not sure if it is entirely due to Katrina. Alot of cheap stores in the downtown area. The sidewalks and streets in the French Quarter are in rough shape too. In fact, I sprained my ankle last night from stepping into a pit on the sidewalk.
Bourbon St. still has lots of strip clubs, with alot of 20-something guys running around taking it in.
Interesting thing about unemployment is how regionally concentrated it is. Had a look at the latest data by MSA the other day. Dominated by CA, NV, FL and a couple of places in the rust belt, which really skew the rate upwards. Most areas of the country nowhere near as bad.
Pete – Am still waiting to hear back about the job I interviewed with last week that I really want. So crossing fingers
Am thinking of contacting temp agencies next week or after Tgiving just so I can start working every day, I don’t care if it’s an Exec asst position at this point – I need money and to work!
Otherwise I will be one of those 15 million Americans that need an extension on my unemployment benefits…..
I’d be tempted to visit NewOrleans but afraid my stomach couldn’t handle that great food.

From Lech on the BK Paper Goose Thread:
“Are you volunteering to make sure all the little goose diaphrams are properly fitted?”
I’ve heard of a gender verification, but I’m not sure who is qualified to perform a gander verification.

we’re all hoping you get it.
rf, if people want the pols to sort out our problems why set the bar so low? Why give money to corrupt pols, small potatoes or not.
