  1. i filled one of my science requirements in college taking the class Drugs and Plant Hallucinogens. and ew i just found out what a growler is. it’s an 11 dollar yuppie 40 ounce.

    *rob*

  2. I also took an American Economic History course that I’m sure was taught much more from the Native American point of view than would ever be tolerated in most colleges in the US. It was quite interesting. My favourite electives were the Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy courses. They’ve been invaluable in helping me manage to stay sane while reading the OT almost daily.

    🙂

  3. I didn’t have any bogus courses at college. Some better taught than others but all real subject matter.
(Unless you’re one of those people that believes that all Humanities / Social Science degrees are pointless).

  4. I think my most bogus class in college was “American Popular Culture”. But what a great class it was.

Then there was sociology, taught by E.Digby Baltzell, who coined the acronym WASP. If you were a graduating senior and got an A on the midterm, you were done with the class for the semester.

My Hitchcock class (in the English Dept.) was surprisingly rigorous though. Thankfully, I worked in a video store in Center City that semester and could bring all the movies home to watch.

  5. “how many people in finance actually end up using calculus in their jobs”

Funny you should ask. There was formulas using calculus in a presentation I worked on last week. I had no clue about their accuracy so I relied on the kindness of the math majors.
