blowfish and donatella,
…well the woman who asks for the donation says that it’s a retreat that includes workshops for children and that it’s in the country during the summer so it’s supposed to be good for the soul and she’s very convincing and a nice person from what I’ve seen.
Although she is known for these donation requests.
:o(
dona- then it’s not the charity I’m thinking of. I do believe that charity begins at home, I don’t believe in it just staying there 🙂
Lech- I’ve worked with nonprofits for most of my life. I agree that there are people who have the worst, or t least the most selfish of intentions. On the other hand, I’ve worked with others that are run by such good people, it makes your eyes water.
It actually really pisses me off that when you’re fancypants in New York you’re expected to do all of this charity stuff. It’s a gigantic circle jerk, all of these dinners and fundraisers. It’s just schmoozing with an entrance fee, no one really gives a crap about these organizations. Oh they pretend to, of course, it’s like going to the ballet when you don’t give a shit about it. And when you win money in some fake contest you’re supposed to give it to your favorite charity, because of course you have one, I mean everyone does, right? My favorite charity is: burn the money and give it to no one, cause I don’t want to enable any smugness, and while you’re at it go fuck yourself.
i love all of brooklyn too. i can’t even really stomach billyburg on the weekends anymore. typically shlep it up to greenpoint, which is probably my fav hood now.

Snaps, There is a group that does stuff out of the Red Hook Community Center. I just don’t know the person/contact name.
