Legion: Ask to see the audited financials. No audited financials, no give.
lol,
last year I asked for a receipt for the charitable donation,
she gave me a photocopy of a flyer for a religious event.
It’s all good though. As I said, she seems like a nice enough person and once a year is ok.
i used to audit a few not-for-profits at my former job. pretty nutty how little actually goes to the cause. upper mgmt is typically VERY well compensated.
Snaps- also try on Nostrand Park. BTW, Sue Rock in Crown Heights helps women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. It’s SueRock originals- check her blog:http://suerockoriginals.blogspot.com/
I know both her and her husband. Really wonderful people.
Lech, Re giving, I think there is a place for charities and there ARE charities which are good. After 9/11, one of my friends who is basically retired, volunteered at the BBB and what she focused on what investigating charities, fully vetting the crop of organization which were soliciting for funds post 9-11. There were a lot of scams, but there are some organizations which know how to do their job well, LIKE Catholic Charities AND Red Cross. You can be assured that if you give money to CC it will get to the right places. I think that there was a big brouhaha after Katrina with Red Cross because donations were not necessarily going to Katrina victims but other places, when donors thought they were donating to help those specific people. The woman in charge was canned, but I think you can rely too on Red Cross to do the right thing and you CAN’T pick up and do personal charity in Haiti for instance. You do have to rely on an organization.
Well, it’s a beautiful building, but the roof really really needs to be replaced (my window is literally five feet away from the cornice, so I perhaps spend more time looking at it than I should).
The last big storm took s’more off the cornice in the back, and the rubber or tarpaper or whatever it is has sagged down and torn open. I’m assuming that whoever the guys on the roof are are doing some damage control, but I would be loathe to stand on any part of that roof. I’ll send you some snaps.

But enough about my wife.
Ba dum dum…

bxgrl, I didn’t know you had been in nonprofits…. for some reason I had gotten it in my head that you had been in the corporate world.
