I thought marketing was the career for psychology majors. Anyway, I agree – bizarrely popular as a major, considering it’s a fairly new, non-vocational subject.
In the UK it’s generally reckoned to be a career-handicap to have a major that ends in -Studies. Not sure if that’s the same here.
“That alone would be enough to cut the unemployment rate from 9.6% to 5.3%. No kidding: Just having back the manufacturing jobs that we’ve lost — even ignoring any growth — would cut the official unemployment rate to 5.3%.”
jackal — yes, happy to stop here on that discussion for everyone else’s sake. Next gathering, I’ll tell you my little brush with all this. It’ll surprise you somewhat, although you may not want to hear more law on your off hours.
OK, change the subject. Someone do a song parody or something. For a while I had in my mind trying an OT parody using Shattered, but I couldn’t make it work at all. Snark’s Bohemian Rhapsody is still the gold standard.
benson is of course right, the causes of the current fiasco are many and complicated. The mortgage tax deduction being left as the only available middle class deduction doesn’t help either. When you enact tax policy to further a social good sometimes it blows up.
like the idea of everyone having to go to college,
I think the idea of everyone having to own a home
has been disproven.
Clearly everyone doesn’t need college
and everyone doesn’t need to own a home.
policies directed to wholesale, one size fits all,
economics should be changed.
and you’re right as well, the policies end up
hurting minority communities disproportionatley
in the end.
put it this way, what good is it if 100% of a
latino school goes to college to get a psych degree,
then get out to find there are no jobs in psychology?
That they have to go another 4 years to get a Phd in psych. to make ends meet.
Many could have just gone to trade school to become
electricians, mechanics or plumbers with solid work
prospects and good pay right off the bat and little
debt.

Slope, I *tried* to have fun with blog wilding yesterday, but no one joined in the fun. I’m punishing everyone by talking about banking regulations.
Those of you who think manufacturing is nothing should read this that came up this AM: Note the source is an investment site, not Mother Jones:

Nope, never Cobble.
Never commented on any blog really except here.

“I’ve never made a comment on curbed…i can barely even stand to read that blog”
Not even with us when we went “blog wilding” over there that day last year, 11217? We all made avatars, and went on about nothing as usual!
