“Think there has to be a limit on the total cost of unemployment benefit”
So 99 weeks of 1/4-1/6 (or less) of your salary to people who have been paying in for 25, 30 years, or more in some cases, is too long when unemployment continues to be so high and corporations are paying record bonuses AGAIN?
Why not extend it until the unemployment rate is much lower. Instead unemployed are left to fend for themselves. What was the point of working so hard for so many years, if your govt. that you paid taxes to, the unemployment that you paid into, your savings, job, your home, your children’s education is yanked out from under you?
And businesses on Wall Street who were bailed out by the Govt, will be paying record bonuses! It’s making me sick to my stomach.
And the tax burden to the system when these people retire, in not all that long from now, is incalculable!! So much for any hopes that these people might pay some of their own way! Hello Medicaid! Hello public housing or card board box under the highway!
Watch the piece, etson. Even benson found it sobering.
Thankfully, given my career situation, I am able to go into a deep sleep on an airplane. For instance, coming back from Oslo this past Saturday, I was in a deep sleep 7 of the 8.5 hours of the flight.
On at least 3 flights, I’ve had a dream that the plane is crashing!! It’s a surreal experience. You hear the plane noise, you’re aware that you are actually on a flight, and you’re having this dream that it’s in the process of crashing!!
Speaking of trains, the R was fucked this morning! I tried to get on at 9th street at 8:30, the trains were packed so bad dozens of people couldn’t even get on. I walked into Manhattan after that.
I saw something that was interesting coming home just now on the F train, nearly empty car. A woman got on, decent looking, trim, sleeveless dress, after a bit she started biting her nails, which I’ve seen before. But after a while she literally started tearing at them, both hands in her mouth at the same time, elbows flying.
I’m like damn, it really sucks to be in that kind of pain, but fascinating to watch.
She got off at 7th Ave, so who knows, maybe she reads Stoner.
I think Hong Kong has to be the most social place in the world to drink…..there’s all sorts of ex-pats from all over the world and the locals are pretty much party animals themselves.
My best drinking episode in biz was with a Finn. He showed me what he said was the Russian way to drink. Down a glass of straight vodka and put the empty glass on your head.

Flight attendants absolutely hate the flights to/from India the most.
