  1. Yankees suck.

    1. Highest payroll in baseball.
    2. Most expensive new stadium in baseball.
    3. Most expensive seats in baseball.
    4. Steroids.
    5. No results.

The Steinbrenner philosophy was buy enuf stars and a team will follow. That philosophy continues, and only works part some of the time. You cannot buy a team, you can only make a team.

  2. “As for paying for 25-30 yrs etc, I think that’s a good argument – the more people paid in the more they should get out. That would imply that younger workers should get lower benefits but may make sense, especially as most of the long term unemployment seems concentrated among people in their 40’s and above.”

Well am younger than CH and Bxgrl so I certainly don’t agree that my benefits should be less when I still have a mortgage and bills just like them plus I paid taxes and have been working for 15 years + so that’s not a viable option.

But I agree with CH/Bxgrl – it’s really sobering when you are experiencing this yourself and I have only been unemployed for 5-6 months now so I can’t imagine how I would feel if I was 9-12-18 months without work

Benson – I will check out that website

  3. holy crap i just read somewhere that there is some van going around the city harvesting peoples organs!!! be careful dont get into any strange vans if you dont want your kidneys stolen!!

  4. From here:

    https://ui.labor.state.ny.us/UBOC/generalfaqs_en.jsp

“NO DEDUCTIONS ARE EVER MADE FROM A WORKER”S PAYCHECK…”

“Unemployment insurance is temporary income for eligible workers who become unemployed through no fault of their own and who are ready, willing, able to work and have sufficient work and wages in covered employment. In New York State, the money for unemployment insurance benefits comes from taxes paid by employers. No deductions are ever made from a worker’s paycheck for it. It is the Department of Labor that determines whether an unemployed worker qualifies for unemployment insurance. ”

  5. “”Watch the piece, etson. Even benson found it sobering.”

    Cobble;
Were you trying to imply that I am the lowest common denominator wrt compassion????”

Maybe she was implying you’re the heaviest drinker?

  6. “Wrong dave- I have years of check stubs showing i paid into it too.”

Then you were self-employed. Or ripped off. And I’m not against extended unemployment bennies, far from it.
