I have a friend who thinks we should temporarily drop the social security age to 55. At a drastically reduced rate, obv. But this way, a lot of the older job seekers from that 60 minutes piece, for example, might consider taking the deal, saving their 401Ks, and just starting over in a place that is cheaper than, say, Silicon Valley.
Also, you clear a bunch of job seekers off the deck.
I don’t really know if it makes sense, but it’s an idea.
(And about the 60 minutes episode, I would sell the fancy house before I cashed out the college funds, but I felt for that family even still.)
Rob – yes it’s scary out there. I’ve had a few interviews and close calls but am still jobless – I think it’s tougher when you are an older worker

If you want to get technical, employees do pay for that benefit via lower wages. Imagine how much more employers would pay if they didn’t have to pay into unemployment insurance and their share of SSI and other payroll taxes.

i really don’t think the steinbrenners care THAT much about winning. i think their philosophy is buy enough stars to keep the seats filled, people buying team merchandise.

People are cracking me up today re unemployment insurance. Is anybody reading what I write? Really, not only have I furnished the links to prove what I am saying, I am an employer myself.

People (employees) have paid in not one dime! However, the more people EARN the more they get out, up to a fairly low cap.

sports are a business, first and foremost.
