Actually we covered a lot of subjects at lunch: boobs (that was before DIBS and mopar got there), landmarking and historic preservation, how the commodities market works, some guy dibs slept with once, Rob, 11217, slopefarm, biff, cobble, brussel sprouts, sugar, that restaurant MM and bxgrl just went to, Saraghina, mopar’s renovations, circus, logging, buying timber land…. lots of stuff.
Lunch was very nice. We covered a range of topics, no politics. And yes, sugar. Dibs, Lechacal, mopar, what I was going to say is that although the raw material for sugar is different for sugar beets and sugarcane, the refined sugar that is created from them both (and that goes into Mexican coca cola) molecularly is the same. BUT very different from High Fructose Corn Syrup.
Grand Sichuan is really nice. I loved the dan dan noodles. Delish. And nice pork. Excellent.
Mopar and dibs in a fistfight over sugar? Sorry I missed it.
Catching up:
Brussels sprouts — yes. Roasted with peanuts and mint leaves, with fish sauce and brown sugar, like they do at Vinegar Hill House. or just roasted with olive oil and garlic. DIBS’s recipe sounds good, too.
But liking brussels sprouts is old news. I’ve mastered kale, ladies and gents. Home made kale chips, kale pie (comes out like spinach pie), and tuscan white bean and kale soup (OK, Mrs. Slopey cooks that one, but I eat it).
Will try to reserve a Friday to make the trip uptown for one of the PLUSA lunches. Will be interesting to hear what certain PLUSAs think of ET training her baby to “like Asian.”
Dona…I forgot to ask if you’d been to the new taro Sushi yet on Flatbush. I won’t go until they get a liquor license and (unlike other places) they won’t let you BYOB.

I got something you can take.

I want ringside seats especially as I seemed to have missed the original Lechacal/Dibs near fisticuffs.
