  1. those fancy liberal arts schools are the best if one can get in. cause that usually means a full ride (vs. the other richie rich kids pay like 65-90k per yr) and the other students are kids of powers that be parents

  2. DH/Lech – I think you guys are right – I messed up Umass wasn’t the school I was thinking of

DH – You know….what DID happen to hammerstein? I think it became something called the 34th Street Music Center or something and they don’t do concerts anymore – I think

Radio City has around a 5000 capacity – I’d be surprised if Avett’s filled RCH
I agree about MGMT -but I could see them filling that capacity

  3. Where I grew up on LI the Jewish kids who couldn’t get into NYU went to BU. BC, of course, is Catholic. I went to NYU but I’m not Jewish – they gave me the best financial aid offer. The other schools I got into all wanted me to have $1000/yr. in student loans and an on-campus job, while NYU offered me the full package – of course that was cut back every year until I wound up working for American Express 1/2 time taking claims for lost travelers cheques, taking out a total of $4000 in student loans, and if my grandfather hadn’t died and left me $1000 I wouldn’t have been able to finish.

Travelers cheques don’t still exist, do they? And $1000 today means nothing, but NYU still soldiers on, although now as one of the most expensive schools in the country, and the #1 fantasy college of high school seniors, as opposed to the middle-class refuge from the Ivies it was founded to be. That and their devouring of most of Greenwich Village is why the alumni association isn’t getting my money.
