  1. Funny, legion, but we did bid once on the famous “yellow house” on 12th Street off 6th ave in the slope. Real painted lady/gingerbread stuff, not too many like it in the So Slo woodframe district. Wish there were more.

  2. gem, obviously my entire massachusetts upbringing was a lie.

I even did lights for House of Pain once. In Massachusetts. Everyone wore green and acted oh so very irish punk but they were all just a bunch of UMASS students.

  3. “DH – I cannot STAND gogol Bordello – ugh – I know everyone is into them and my label loved them but I was like this is just gypsy noise – i didn’t dig it”

some of their old stuff is pretty raw and i wasn’t able to get into it until I saw them live (they always put on an insane show) Luckily they always give Williamsburg props when they come in town and play a last minute show at a small venue (last one was at Brooklyn Bowl – awesome)

i think if all new bands had an accordian and electric fiddle player we’d be much better off than having a bunch of hipster noise bands who’s musical talent doesn’t go beyond tinkering with Apple Logic Studio.

  4. LECH – not sure where they are from, but I think some of them are from LA
I recall DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill was associated with them I also think the Soul Assassins were affiliated with them as well – so most likely they are from Cali
I thought the video was shot in NYC at the st. pats parade – gotta check that!

  5. “The other day my 5 yo daughter was standing at the top of our stoop yelling “start wearing purple wearing purple” to passers by. I was like, “awesome”.”

Good for her. I can tell you where that ends up. For a year, my daughter was obsessed with painting her room neon red, orange and green, with one wall in chalkboard paint. She talked openly of moving someplace where they paint houses bright colors and taking it up a notch, with four shades of neon on the exterior, plus some polka dots and glow in the dark decals.

  6. “i love bands that modernize traditional ethnic music. dropkick murphys are cool, as is flogging molly and gogol bordello.”

Go back and check out The Pogues’ “If I Should Fall From Grace With God.” Great record that does exactly that. Probably just about the last thing I bought new on vinyl, too.
