paint chips! I have a deck of benjamin colors here and can’t imagine how people choose. I’m not good at it. I painted my last bathroom 3 times. I am NOT painting a ceiling 3 times.

Ringo, I am pretty good at this, if I do say so myself. I will think about this over the weekend and let you know Monday.

Re: Gov’t regulation, unfortunately there is always an action/reaction phenomonon in regulation. There were gapeing holes in the regulatory oversight of some complex and very opaque derivatives, the opaque world of CDOs and CDSs and now the regulators have gone a little crazy, overreacting, fixing what ain’t broke and ramming themselves into very efficient, functioning and relatively straightforward and transparant markets — such as commodity derivatives. It is a Pain in the Ass.

  2. “Oh I understand human interaction and dynamics at the macro level extremely well, cobble. I don’t care to understand one-on-one interactions, like how to play nice and avoid hurting your feelings, if that’s what you’re getting at.”

That’s not my point. You don’t hurt my feelings because I’m not invested in you liking me. But that said, you do play games, you avoid being genuine it seems, and your attitude of superiority is difficult at best.

  3. is she on Facebook? you can ‘friend’ her there.

So I got the Mary Poppins tickets. Not telling the nieces ahead of time. Am assuming this is something a 9 and 11 y.o. girl would go for. Right, cgar?

  4. Etson, who’s fawning? You just don’t understand what a big deal it is to the world that Obama was elected president. Or what a big deal it is for those of us from minority groups to see this man take the oath of office. Within MY lifetime, Rosa Parks got arrested for not moving to the back of the bus because of her color, people were killed for working for civil rights, and Barak Obama became president of the United States. And I’m not that old. I think the Nobel committee was celebrating how far we’ve come. Why overthink it?

  5. “Some people are just miserable; take pleasure in being miserable; and take even greater pleasure in making other people’s lives miserable.”

can you please STOP telling people what I’m really like.

  6. At some point you have to confront here directly. Make a list of the specifics first and have them all lined up. If she thinks you’re a pushover she’s going to continue to abuse that. usually people that abuse that issue back down real fast when you actually start to lay down some law.

  7. “people who rely on gov’t programs like Medicare, food stamps, and unemployment) should be more accountable for their actions, but big business, insurance companies, the financial sector, etc, should be exempted from that personal and fiscal accountability.”

Actually, big business, insurance companies and the financial sector should face the consequences of their actions. When they don’t, as has been the case, they have no reason to adapt to more successful strategies. Economists refer to this as “moral hazard” and it has been discussed ad nauseum in the press.
