  1. I gotta agree that Obama’s receipt of the Nobel peace Prize was premature at best. he did nothing to further the cause of peace globally. Yes, he proved that years of prejudice could be put behind and a black person elected as leader here but, there are black leaders throughout the world.

Now if he could only pull out of Afghanistan and leave them to their own devices and stop spending money that we don’t have obver there, I’d give him an award for that.

  2. Dear liberals:

You have said many times that Bush deregulated the financial services industry.

    How?

    Please, I’m all ears.

Bonus points if you don’t have to look up the answer.

  3. “cobble, it’s like the story of that woman who was making more on welfare than what she is now making at her job. The entitlement programs are simply out of hand. It’s ridiculous.

That is not an indictment of the welfare system, which barely pays a living stipend. It’s an indictment on the low wages for the kinds of jobs most welfare recipients can get. Which is why job training for high paying jobs is neccessary. Let’s not blame the victim, here.”

DIBS, until you’ve been dependent on either long term unemployment or assistance, I’m not sure you can really understand how important their existence is. I’m so grateful on a daily, hourly, minute to minute basis that I found a job. I was this close to having to cash out my IRA, and cash out what’s left of my mutual fund/savings accounts. Unemployment kept me afloat during a period of unemployment the likes of which I have never ever experienced. I took whatever dribs and drabs of house cleaning, house sitting, whatever work I could find to supplement my unemployment and savings and was lucky to have family and BH to help carry me. But it’s been literally terrifying for me for 21 months. It really gets my knickers in a twist when I hear people diss food stamps or assistance or unemployment. You just have no idea of the stress and the hit your self-esteem takes. You just can’t understand.

M4L, about what happened yesterday. Maybe it is cold in your office and you got a chill. That was a kind of weird thing that happened to you. 🙁

  5. quote:
To no one’s surprise more than my own — especially considering I declined to meet you people in person and wouldn’t join you at Dress Barn last year.

im picturing a lurking accidently walking in here and reading that.

    *rob*

  6. “You just don’t understand what a big deal it is to the world that Obama was elected president.”

It’s a big deal to you, and to black people in the US. Not to much of the world.
From what I have seen, people outside the US thought it was kinda nice (at least in Europe / Canada) but it makes little practical difference. Nations will act in their own self-interest.
I also think you are conflating the positive symoblism of having a black President with Obama’s character.

  7. CGar, under no circumstances attempt to appeal to anyone’s better nature.
If the witch had a better nature, she wouldn’t be a witch. If the Big Boss had a better nature, he’d have been left for dead on the side of the road long ago.

Some really bad advice on the OT today.
The only other idea I’ve heard that is remotely possible was the male hooker blackmail scheme, but it lacks subtlety and has other legal and practical drawbacks.

    Stick to the plan!
