How come you diss CMU from getting his physics from wikipedia then?”

I diss people who respond to real time discussions on the OT by google searching arguments to back up whatever preconceived notions they already have in their heads. I otherwise don’t care where people get their knowledge.

  2. rob, 33 is not too old. Lots of guys in their 40s & 50s looking for stuffed capons in their 30s (as opposed to chicken in teens and 20s).

You just have to have something to offer. And, at least be able to read the map when the two of you are driving out to a fancy dinner party upstate.

all posturing – would you let your kid go to jail because they can’t pay their debt?

  4. yeah i did 1/3 scholarships 1/3 financial aid (grant money) and 1/3 student loans. except i thought it would be a wonderful idea to borrow as much money as i could each semester and blow it all on very bad things. lol. now i gotta pay that shit back and im borderline braindead!

  6. I think there will be a revolution in post-high school education in my lifetime. What’s happening now is ridiculous and wasteful and just keeps snowballing and getting worse. There are hundreds of thousands of kids out there almost bankrupting their parents and / or taking out hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans just to get a worthless pieces of paper and four years older.

I completely agree with Obama on community colleges. The four year university system is not the answer. Trade schools and community colleges are the answer.

It used to be important to get everyone physically in one location because knowledge was transmitted in person by professors. That’s less and less true. If you are eager to learn you can teach yourself almost anything with nothing but an Internet connection.
