  1. DH, college (not those uber premo ones & the super complex majors) is real EASY in this country (again, not straight A easy but B avg is easy to get). a lot of the 1st 2 yr classes are stuff kids around the world have already learned in HS. Expect more out of the kids. dont shoot for the moon. but come on, B avg is a super reasonable expectation – especially if kid aint doing complex nuclear physics at MIT

  2. I hope to pay for my kids’ college tuition. My accountant says I have to save $600 per month per kid from the day they were born. It’s a lot, but I want to insist on college (or being drafted by the Yankees) and I’m not sure how you do if you aren’t paying for at least the bulk of it.

Honestly, I just want to keep them out of the military.

  3. “I totally agree with this. Technical schools are great. I met a guy that took welding at Apex and he’s doing fine.

    They are different from CCs.”

dibs, the programs offered at technical schools are exactly the same as those offered at community colleges at a fraction of the cost.

Also, should someone who attended a community college for a technical program decide to enroll in a BA/BS program later on, they will have some legitimate transferable credits toward a “four year” degree. That’s generally not the case with schools like Apex. Most universities, especially the better ones, will not take credits from those schools.

  4. I paid for college and grad school by working but today’s costs are outrageous. I think a fair amount of blame can be laid at govt backed slma loans without parent income restrictions which started in 1992.

The overall inflation rate since 1986 increased 100.14%, which is why we pay nearly double for everything we buy. On the other hand, during the same time, tuition increased a whopping 412.62%.

  5. DH, how would not paying that debt get them in jail? if that child cant even get a job (assuming it’s more normal econ), he/she is an embarassment. if the parents cant get thru, some harsh real world lessons is necessary. as an immigrant coming from some have-nothing country-side, I wont be soft with my kid. I’m not expecting him to be some genius or accomplish great things but if he cant even get a B+ avg in college, he a big time slacker and would’ve dissed his parents big time raising his lazy ass.
