“I believe the Pasty Brits ceded the Virgin Islands to the US at the beginning of WWII, when they were in it, but we were not yet, in exchange for “cash & carry” or “lend lease” (prolly “cash & carry” since they were theoretically going to pay for those arms**), and because they could not defend the islands against the Germans. And we kept them.”
I suppose you haven’t heard that the best part is still the British Virgin Islands. 😉
Cgar -interesting
but do we have jurisdiction over the US virgin islands? can their residents live here in the US without applying for citizenship?
taxes? do they have a governing body? parliment? president?
“I cant believe that you have to justify an anti glare screen. Do you work at a death star or a kindergarten?”
DCB, speaking as one who also works on trading floors now, I can unequivocally say kindergarten. Use indoor voices – cut out the chit chat (instead email or IM your colleagues sitting 2 feet away). No papers on the desk. No use of personal BlackBerry at the desk. Personal phone calls? No. Use email for personal reasons at your peril — surveillance for words and phrases you can’t even begin to imagine (something with “salad” comes to mind).
“and what’s the deal with the “US Virgin Islands” – how are they part of the US?”

**etson, you owe us money for “cash & carry”, so pay up!
***Did everyone hear that Germany just finishing repaying its WWI reparations. That only took 96 years. Seth Myers did a really funny story on it last weekend on SNL.
