  1. Slopey – I put mint & things w/ invasive habits into underground pots or holes lined w/ horticultural fabrics so they don’t take over everything. I missed w/ lily-of-the-valley & evening primrose, though, so I have to uproot tons every year.

  2. Mm had an very old wildrose bush in the backyard that hadn’t flowered in years. I started clearing out the weeds around it and getting it sun so about 3 years ago it suddenly blossomed again. Very pretty. I was so proud until I found out what a nasty, evil, thorn ridden mutant of a plant it was. It would grab you as you walked past- evil, I tell you. And then suddenly this year it completely died. I have no idea why but maybe one of the adjoining backyards put down poison and it migrated in the soil.

I danced on that sucker’s grave.

  3. Yes Jessi’s right – I was on that thread
11217 – maybe what tiptoe was saying that lack of regular old bakeries – I think what I mean is growing up in LI – we had 2 bakeries in our small town – one was the Italian bakery that had all sorts of cakes/bread/cookies and pastries and then the french bakery came in and it was amazing – with better tasting stuff than the other bakery – but it was a straight bakery with cakes to choose from
a lot of these places in PS aren’t like that – from what I have experienced there are not alot of places in Park sLope where one can pick up a decent fresh baked cake to bring to a party

  4. legion — Nashville would be a great movie to watch right now, with that political van rolling through the entire proceedings. As Henry Gibson sang, “We Must be Doing Something Right To Last 200 Hundred Years.” A great time capsule. I don’t remember the name of the Altman film with the carver stories. Good, but not his best.

  5. Cool, Donatella – so basically we export the CAPP coal… but it’s not a totally environmentally irresponsible thing to do because they’ve got the technology in place to process it in a way that’s sensitive. Sounds like a win-win.

  6. m4l. I was planning to, but the weather had me a little spooked, so I was in Manhattan before 7AM, did what I had to do and ran back home. Didn’t want to get flooded in the subway, also wanted to keep an eye on the basement and stuff. So hopefully I’ll see you next time, and enjoy the lunch.

  7. Jessi,

I think people were saying last week that they wanted a dedicated cupcake shop, which I don’t really think there is in the Slope. Lots of bakeries which serve cupcakes, but not a cupcake shop, per se.

  8. You embarrassed her, 12217, by your encyclopedic knowledge of bakeries. Some people are very sensitive. 🙂 Apparantly she didn’t know her own neighborhood. By the way, Senor Porteno, have you been to BA lately?
