Sorry for the delay! I can’t keep up. Every time I go to post, the train goes into a tunnel or something.
Snappy, renovations are still dragging on. We’re very close to done — except every time I turn around we have to do something new or do something over. Like today I nearly had a heart attack in the basement, water pouring in everywhere and under our stoop too, which we just fixed.
Hey — a funny thing happened last night. There were Hasidic guys all over the blocks near our house, walking quickly in big groups and singing at 12:45 am! I know this is a celebration called Simchat Torah, but what were they doing in our neighborhood?
The funny thing is they could have said the same thing to us. We had just come from walking through the Hasidic part of South Williamsburg to see the celebration there.
no, im not. i’ve lived in the NYC metropolitan area my entire life. don’t tell me to move. i think it’s okay that people are vocal about their disgust with some of these places. it’s like an overpriced “Authentic, really we wear” Indian restaurant opens up and you find out the owner and chef aren’t even Indian, they’re from Indiana!
and personally i think i am in the right city because it’s fun to hate.
yes i know if i lived in detroit or something id be happy as a pig in shit, but happiness is overrated and totally irrelevant in this millenium
Yes to everything wasder said at 12:22. (Nashville in my top 5.)
Incidentally, it was largely house republicans who nearly tanked TARP. Now it looks like taxpayers will be out of pocket just $50 billion, a fraction of the original estimate. Obama admin deserves some credit for program’s management. Much less costly than S&L bailout.
I see Rob’s point (minus the marinating ovaries part ) I think people dive into the bakery/cupcake business thinking how cute and fun and that they will be successful but don’t realize how much work it is AND that you have to have delicious FRESH products.
Sure I like Trois Pommes, but guess what – every other time I have been there whatever I buy was ALWAYS stale and hard. Little Buddy too is suffering from stale goodies. I went to Lady Bird bakery up on 8th avenue and have had stale brownies and stale cookies.
Perhaps it’s b/c there are too many of these little bakeries that people in PS can choose from that prevents them from going to the 1 or 2 solid bakeries in town to keep the selection fresh. Just sayin……
Blue Sky does so well b/c it’s pretty much 80% muffins and the muffins are unreal so people come out of their way to get them
Every Sunday, I used to work in a place named “Peggy’s Bakery”, an old fashioned Italian bakery in Staten Island when I was in High School. We made cookies, cakes, pastries, rolls, buns (cakey things with crumbs and stuff), eclairs, napolians (sp), strawberry shortcake, butter cream birthday cakes with blue roses…. BREAD, pizza dough. My dinky little salary I took out of the cash register at the end of the day. I spent half the day measuring out cookies
AND I USED TO BRING HOME AS MANY CAKES AS I WANTED SINCE THE STUFF WOULD GO STALE BY TUESDAY!!!!!
I was greeted by my “loving” family with open arms when I came home ;0, I could be assured popularity for one day a week anyway.
There are a couple of these type bakeries in Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. This is my idea of a bakery. Cupcakes I can live without.

What used to be 2 Little Hens (I think it’s Ladybird now) on 8th Av. between 12th & 11th has good cakes but they’re very pricey.
