Topic: Gravity is just a “theory”.

    Discuss”

What’s to discuss? Your statement is correct. Gravity is just a theory. Are you telling us you know in an absolute sense that gravity operates in a particular way? I think that responsible philosophers and scientists would disagree with that.

All physical sciense ultimately relies to some extent on inductive reasoning, and therefore can never be absolutely known.

Mathematics is different. But mathematics is not a physical science.

  2. Reasonable. Devil’s in the details.

‘proven wrong’->disagree…rather say ‘the way it was implemented (in Russia, etc) was proven wrong’. Socialistic structure has worked well in the Scandinavian countries, France, etc. Don’t bring up current troubles, nothing to do with it, global and started by us here anyway.

sure, as long as you can outsource your military protection to a sucker like the good ol’ USA.

‘good societal design here’->good for the haves, less so for the have-nots, and societal mobility is not enough to compensate unless you accept social Darwinism.
again, the entire American experiment is a study in the have nots becoming the haves, through hard effort, imagination, persistence and many times sexiness. Would you trade that in for a guaranteed shot at mediocrity?

    >and when asked to show where their “faith” leads them,
they can only answer: to nothing.

A lot of lefties are religious too. Those who don’t believe don’t need to be ‘led’ to anything, that’s a faith-driven concept.

I’ll give you that, many on the left are indeed religious, but too many are willing to bash the faithful on the Right as silly or not thinking when faith is a spiritual idea, not necessarily rooted in a need for proof.

  3. CMU and Bxgrl, you simply do not understand science.

The theory of evolution does NOT tell us what happened. That is why it is called a “theory” and not a “fact”.
As theories go, it is full of inconsistencies, and has only some evidence supporting it. That doesn’t mean that it is wrong, just that the state of scientific inquiry has only gotten so far.

An example of a theory that was nearly complete and well supported by evidence was Newton’s explanations of celestial mechanics. Nearly complete – but the tiny cracks in it eventually opened the door to a vastly more difficult and messy understanding.

And Bxgrl, the sky is not blue. Particulate matter in the atmosphere refracts light at the high end of the visible spectrum, which your eye and brain interpret as blue.

In other words, “blue” occurs in your mind, and is not a property of nature beyond that. You make the mistake of believing that your perception of something is the same as the thing itself.

    Many people rally against “creationism”
because they believe in evolution. Those people are equally tied to their “science religion” as the creationists are tied to their “bible religion”. But it is not science.

Now Thor and Oden, that is the TRUTH!
