Catholic schools have always charged tuition. In NYC, I think tuition is about 6k which is about what it costs in other cities. They do have to pay lay teachers, altho they pay very little. Parishes have always picked up a big chunk of the tab. This is what they’re changing now. Centralizing the system.
There are still well-regarded catholic high schools in NY
They didn’t charge tuition when I was a kid, but that was a long time ago. My parents did get charged for High School, a pittance at the time but it was almost 100% taught by clergy. The fees are have grown in proportion to the loss of clergy.
jessi- it probably did make a difference. My nephew went to a charter school in Harlem and made friends in elementary school he still has to this day. i think all kids benefit when there is real diversity- it kind of helps blow the old stereotypes out of the water of what you think you know. 🙂
My daughter went to a catholic school for two years in Williamsburg. Big mistake, education was very mediocre. I gave up correcting grammatical errors in the English teacher’s handouts. Things were much better at a public school in Greenpoint.
WOW!!!!
the furniture not my style.
But I crave the rug in living room and those gardens!!!
Furniture is wrong in grey dining room…the wall color is great tho.
wasder, thanks for pointing out HOTD. Price is right for Carroll Gardens. Which means there must be something wrong — used as a 2-family or not, it’s prolly still broken up as a 4-family, but we’ll see.
Ringo, don’t know that I’m a big fan of salvaged cabinets, not in the kitchen at least. I love salvaged antiques and furniture and stuff though. If you seriously want to sell me your apartment, then it’s high time you stop being so mysterious and meet me already. No doubt I live close to you. I’ve stopped badgering you by email, so I leave the ball in your court. BTW, for me to buy the Heights apartment AND the country house, the country house would need to be in Vermont since that’s where I’ve been looking for a vacay home (to be close to lechacal at all times, of course).
I realized that my kid is screwed re: education. We don’t live in a nabe of best public schools and can’t afford to send to private and his mother is stupid.
So, I’ve decided that I need to get a bill in my name sent to your (if you live in b. heights or park slope) address so my kid can go to a primo public school.
*rob*, can I use your address?
“”No, but you do resemble Boy George of Culture Club.”
Do you really want to hurt me?”
Nah- he’d tumble for you though 😉

The Democrats aren’t going to act on te Bush tax cuts before the end of the year. Your taxes WILL go up next year.
Tax rates are now 10%, 15%, 25% 28%, 33% and 35%. Depending upon where you are, your new rate will be 15%, 28%, 31%, 36% and 39%.
Your take home pay will drop Jan 1. This you can specifically blame on the Democrats.
