Regarding worship as part of a community in a Church:
My cousin’s husband, in a sort of aggressive (semi-mocking?) way asked me once why I attended church, I guess as opposed to being a believer on my own and trying to live a good life. I told him that part of the nature of our faith is that it is collective, we are not alone, and that worshipping in church with others is part of the expression of our belief.
He sort of sputtered, well…you don’t have to get defensive. Not at all. I just answered his question.
I read in Obama’s book – Dreams from my father, the section where I spoke about his own conversion and it was very touching. Nobody can tell the depth of another person’s religious belief, everybody is a screwup, that’s a given and that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a deep belief and struggle to live it.
I really think some kind of test of belief, piety, practice, orthodoxy, and affiliation is inappropriate, arrogant and ultimately blasphemous.
I don’t think many people are really reading legion’s posts. They’re projecting right wing bogeymen on legion and then attacking them. It’s sort of a two-step process: (1) stuff opponent into extreme position (2) attack extreme position.
Funny to watch though. Sorry legion, but sometimes I like to be the one with the popcorn.

The most bogus Halloween costumes is when you get the older kids who zip their jackets up above their heads and go as a headless whatever. I have a feeling 75% of New Jersey kids probably pull that lame trick. Rob, can you confirm?
HA! total confirmation. or they just stick their head thru a garbage bag from home and go as white trash. (that was a popular costume where i went to school, til they banned it one year hahahah)
Is Kernel Sanders kosher?

“You don’t like almonds?”
Nuts and raisins do NOT belong in baked goods. We’ve been through this before. Covered in chocolate are fine, but that’s it.
