With all due respect to G10 and Dona, whom I love, Anti-cycling/pro-driving types crack me up. Trying to make cyclists have to pay, register, etc. is absurd. It’s like watching those old cigarette ads featuring doctors who tell the audience all about the benefits of smoking. When we can no longer rely on oil and are desperate for an alternative sustainable energy source, people will look back on these times and marvel at how short-sighted we were.
Being against cycling is like being against solar panels. People should be given incentives to cycle more and drive less, not penalized for it.
no, there was a traffic study done at some point. several years back. I think the other two bridges could have tollbooths now (or with minimal changes) but the brooklyn bridge could not, too narrow. And if they put tolls on the other two, the truck traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge would be a mess. So, no tolls on east river crossings and a plan to “paint” the brooklyn bridge (and psst.. widen approaches).
I’m not against putting tolls here btw. Just don’t like that they seem to be covering it up.
You don’t pay a premium to go through the tunnel in the subway, Ringo. And the point of the fareless Staten Island ferry is to preserve the one fare system. If you don’t believe in the one fare system for New York City residents and you think that the Staten Island Ferry is a luxury or a form of transportation that should be exempted from this one fare system, then you should propose that to your City Council member as a method for getting additional revenue from Staten Islanders.
I thought DeLepp was implying you were joking that our (as in mine and his) respective Significant Others must be blind. Hence my astute observation that you, above all of us, have really outdone yourself. But I guess you’re saying you were actually lumping yourself in with those of us with better looking better halves.
