    I don’t give dates.

uh, seriously? i know you dont have to, but that is a dead giveaway that either 1.) you are insecure about your age 2.) you are chary of the company you are interviewing for and chary of their hiring practices. no one likes to hire chary people. especially chary people with an age complex.

you really should put the dates.

and get some fuck-me contact lenses.

  2. Etson, I completely agree with you about rude flight attendants. I think it is stunning sometimes that some people who would have no opportunity to strong arm people in other situations seem to relish wielding their little club of power against exhausted, put upon passengers. (Though Virgin Atlantic is a little rough too in my opinion). One time, I was rushing to make a flight, couldn’t eat lunch, and no time to hit the ATM either. I got on the flight (5 hour flight) famished with no cash. The credit card machine was broken and so they were just taking cash. They would not give me anything to eat since I didn’t have cash.

Can you believe that? I was really freaked out and the passenger next to me paid for my lunch, shaming the
flight attendant. Stuff like that happens all the time.
I think though that the Jet Blue flight attendant was hurt by the passenger’s bag. It looked like he had a small cut on his forehead. That would make me pretty p’o’d. Not enough to curse out the plane and escape through the escape hatch.

I find flight attendants on US airlines are often quite rude (especially looking at you, Continental). Rarely get any of that attitude on UK or Canadian airlines.

You’d never get that on an Asian flight. I kind of liked the old ladies senior flight attendants on United’s First & Business class across the Pacific. Nothing to look and and sometimes cranky but they were prefessionals and they pretty much knew quickly how much attention you wanted or not and knew enough to leave the whole bttle of wine at your table!!!

  4. CH is right on the money. It doesn’t matter how you feel about yourself. It’s an employer’s market, and with so many talented folks of all ages jobless, employers can be as selective and arbitrary as they want. I started my own thing because I saw bad signs at my previous PR firm and realized that at my age, the prospects of my hooking up with another corporate-type outfit – despite my very strong professional background – were just not very good.

  5. A somewhat well-known author just completed PWNED me on his Facebook page. I commented on something he wondered about. He replied:

“That’s the complete opposite of what I advise most people. I’ve been doing it for 30 years so I’ll stay in for the long haul.”
