I think this thread is starting to show why no-one actually discusses race openly in this country. Or to be more precise, why no white person openly discusses race. Fear of being accused of being a racist will keep most discussions stagnant. Only those whites who are openly racist feel comfortable talking about it. Eric Holder where are you?
MM – You might well be right about the Post, but do you really think that Delonas is such an unreconstructed racist and intended for it to go this way?
One would have to be living in a cave on an island to escape the historic comparisons of black people to apes. There are plenty of Thomas Nash, Victorian precidents, on up until the present time. To excuse it because GW Bush was often depicted as looking a bit monkeylike is absurd. No one is that naieve.
The Post knew exactly what it was doing. It is merely another example of their usual anti-Obama, pro right agenda. They deservedly were called on it, and now they take the innocent, wide-eyed “who me?” attitude. It constantly amazes me that they are still in publication.
the Post is the world’s worst “newspaper.” I use the term loosley- I can’t go into the details but suffice it to say the main reason i am out of work is because the Post decided to do a story on us because we were marginally connected to someone else who they suddenly decided to slander. What they did to my boss was about as connected to journalism and free speech as the Constitution is to Mein Kampf. It was horrible and they tried to destroy my employers’ reputation for no other reason than they need to sell papers – they finally actually printed a retraction because every lie and rumor they printed we had proof was a lie (thank the DOJ for that). But they cost us big bucks in lawyer fees to fight them, and contracts we lost because of the bad publicity.
They are the scum of the earth. The National Enquirer and Star are more professional than these p.o.s’s. So why am I not surprised that they would print a cartoon like that- with every intention of being racist. They they insult the reading public by claiming “What? Who me?”
A friend of mine just told me about the first time his aunt in Tennessee played Pictionary. She drew a monkey and while her partner guessed over and over again various possibilities she just shook her head and pointed to the monkey she’d drawn. When the time was up, her word turned out to be “black”. I don’t think this cartoon can possibily have been innocently drawn and then published.
When the angry masses rise up and torch John Thain’s mansion, the Post can run the headline “Rye Toast.”
Wasn’t there a Dog Shootts Man headline?

The Post is a useless right wing rag. They haven’t been worthy of notice since their famed “Headless Body in Topless Bar” headline.

I completely agree with ENY, Bxgrl and others.
