Ok, so say the cartoonist didn’t mean it to be racist – what possible mental leap were we supposed to make from creator of stimulus package to shot dead monkey. Can someone explain that? Ditto? What, precisely, did Dolanas want us to see [that he badly mangled]??

the ironic thing is that george bush made the best monkey impersonations. i actually make a pretty good monkey impersonation myself when i pull my ears out and stuff. i saw the cartoon. it was stupid. i have no comment on it as i think free speech should be guaranteed, even if it’s hate speech unfortunately.

The cartoon was a goof. I think anyone who thinks Delonas was actually saying, when he drew that cartoon, that Obama is a chimp needs their head tested. That said, I also think anyone who read that cartoon and didn’t see that it could be interpreted as such, especially given the history of that particular line of racist insult, also needs their head tested. The editors were crazy to publish that and think it wouldn’t cause horrible offense.
