I’m keeping mute on this issue of racism / racists.
But Ditto you are correct on so many levels.
The majority of humans are sheep (is that a racist comment?), they are led to believe what they believe in and think they way they do based on what others guide them toward.
Like I said earlier if one person says something is racist, 10 people that didn’t initially see it as such, will then convince themselves or be convinced that it is.
If you didn’t read all the commentary (citing it as racist) about this cartoon, and were not jaded by the media coverage over it. What did you initially think?
“White people “won’t talk about race” because they’re AFRAID of being called racists? Are you kidding me?”
No, I am not kidding you in the slightest, though I’m apparently the only poster who thinks that on this thread. I would say most educated (non-racist) white people have an unholy fear of being associated with anything that even smells of racism, let alone is racist. You are right in that they can deny such accusations, but the denier is tainted from that point on. How many people now reading this have their suspicions about me because I pointed out above that comparing politicans to apes has been done before, including our recent president, and then interpreting that as “in defense” of racism. Sam (above) saw the cartoon and at first thought the same thing, whereas MM (above) describes this idea as an “absurd” justification.
“Or to be more precise, why no white person openly discusses race. Fear of being accused of being a racist will keep most discussions stagnant.”
White people “won’t talk about race” because they’re AFRAID of being called racists? Are you kidding me? What have the “white people” on this thread been doing? Discussing race! Why on earth should white people be “afraid” of being called racists? Anyone can make an accusation against anyone else. If the accusation is untrue, the accused should have the guts to stand up and say so! White people who are not racists (and I know many who I believe are not) can always deny such accusations.
“Do you really think that Delonas is such an unreconstructed racist and intended for it to go this way?”
I don’t know if he’s a racist or how far he “intended for it to go.” I do know that what he did was very insulting to the black people of this country, and disrespectful towards the President of the United States. The artist is a grown up man who as a political cartoonist is keenly aware of the implications of his work. He’s not getting a pass on this from black folks.

It didn’t take a news story to “tell me what to think”. Your statement is overly simplistic, BRG.
BRG – I only saw it as a link about an offensive cartoon, so I don’t know what my original reaction would have been.

So, no, I am not kidding.

If one person sees something as racist, ten people will THEN see it as racist

Thanks ditto, though working for the post probably falls under the “Use Powers for Good, not Evil” clause.
