  1. Donatella, act like you’re looking into possible solutions and then conclude after dismissing a few ideas that aren’t feasible that you can’t provide space for the bike. That’s what our landlord did and it seemed convincing.

  2. “Do other homeowners allow for public chaining up of bikes or do they expect tenants to put them in their apts? I guess I am feeling uncomfortable about being tough about this.”

My old landlords always provided some place for me to put my bike outside. You’d be amazed the kind of damage carting a bike in and out of an apartment on a daily basis can do.

  3. OK, tenant calls me up to ask where she can chain up her new bike (voice mail). I told her no I don’t want chaining up bikes in public space. It is academic anyway since I have a bona fide construction site going on here. I am feeling like I am expected to provide some kind of public bike parking space, but ever since I kicked out a sociopathic lunatic who came with the building and who became accustomed to parking her motorcycle in my courtyard, that I don’t want bikes of any kind in public spaces. The last bike I had (stored for 2 weeks outside) was ripped off anyway. The other tenant I told before she moved in, that there was no bike storage here, she said ok, I’ll put it somewhere. One thing I can’t stand is tenants’ shit in public places.
