  1. quote:
So when you were growing up, did everyone in your family have their own personal bar of bath soap?

ugh. growing up everyone in my family shared the same bar of soap. absolutely f-ing disgusting. but we were white trash so i guess it was expected.

    *rob*

  2. “Doesn’t matter at all how segregated it is right now. It’s just a matter of old generations and their baggage dying off.”

Well, actually, it does matter. A Lot. Because people alive right now are getting hurt by it. That matters to me.

“Way in the future”-term, I don’t worry about it, I agree that it’s all getting mixed up. But for the people alive now, and the children in my family growing up, it matters to me. I want those kids to be free of racism or at the very least have an understanding of what it is, and to do their very best to combat it, not perpetuate it.

  3. Lechacal, you are right. And I think about that. But I think that paying attention to history is important and that remembering accurately what a group/people went through is something that is honorable/noble/dignifying/healing.

  4. Re: NYTimes, the coverage on euthanasia and abortion rights for example (news analysis pieces, which are great places to show bias when “explaining” an issue to the public) have definately had a bias. I have been paying attention to this for years.

I hear you and respect that, Donatella. Like I she the top
“mainstream” media outlets aren’t perfect, and when you come down to it ALL reporting reflects some bias, the way I see it. Nevertheless I stand by my statement that the top-drawer mainstream outlets represent our best and most objective news sources.

  5. You can look anyone in the eyes – ANYONE – and inform them that after a bunch of generations 100% of their descendants are going to be mixed race. It’s great to see the reaction sometimes. You can really tell a lot about a person from their reaction.

  6. Dave, guess who is Lehman’s bankruptcy advisors. Hint: it’s a firm I used to work for and someone else that you know still works for.

I’ll tell you this much…Bankruptcy biz for lawyers is awesome. Guaranteed paid fees and they bill like crazy. Mid-level partners bill at something like 800-900 an hour.

  7. Growing up, Cobble, 8 people used the same bathroom and the same bar of soap and now I am not so nuts about soap hygiene. Guests get their own towels, their own toothbrush, their own washcloths.
