  1. Rob, it’s the 24/7 AC for the dogs. They don’t need it. Maybe that 103 degree day with 90% humidity. But that is overkill, I’m not surprised about that bill at all. Get a big fan and put it on for them during the day. No, you are not going to get any kind of Con Ed break.

  2. I tend to agree with CGar and dibs on this one, biff. At your level, interviews are more about fit, anyway. Be clear and honest about what you are looking for. If this gig turns out not to be right, it may lead to the right gig later. In this climate, lots of good reasons not to leave a safe spot, so finding the right way to decline shouldn’t be difficult.

  3. I dunno, for me, and knowing that Biff is a cool guy to get a drink with, I would think a better approach for networking would be to meet up with group when they go out for a happy hour or something. Less pressure that way (like going on a blind date vs. hanging out with a crew).

  4. I’ve done interviews for the same reasons in the past. I don’t think it did any harm and I did meet some potentially useful new people. But it did take up a bunch of time (and stress in hiding it from my then employer), and it was difficult to maintain a veneer of false sincerity in the interviews themselves.

  5. DIBS;

    Did you see the story in today’s WSJ about unions hiring non-union unemployed workers at the minimum wage to staff their picket lines?

    Is this the ultimate in hypocrisy or what? Taking advantage of unemployed workers to pay them the minimum wage. Hey, what happened to the “living wage” requirement you try to ram down the throat of so many companies and municipalities?
