M4L, You have a job! (elbowing M4L out of the way) ME FIRST! See if they need a desperate unemployed hard-working asshat!
Can someone please explain to me why employers are hesitant to hire unemployed people? Seems to me that someone who has been unemployed for awhile would be OVER-THE-MOON to be employed and hence possibly MORE motivated to do a great job!
Thanks all. Very interesting perspectives. One practical concern I didn’t mention was that I would definitely be interested in going to this firm in another capacity and do not want HR to put some black mark on my name/resume basically saying I left them high and dry and backed out of an interview.
“I dunno, for me, and knowing that Biff is a cool guy to get a drink with, I would think a better approach for networking would be to meet up with group when they go out for a happy hour or something. Less pressure that way (like going on a blind date vs. hanging out with a crew).”
I totally agree with this! I think it’s much easier to network in a social environment, as long as I don’t throw karaoke into the mix and send them running for the hills.
“DH, friend of mine at work is going to a Weezer concert in your neck tonight, on Kent Avenue, apparently. Is this the barge on the East River you told me about?”
Yeah, those are the pay benefit concerts in the East River State Park on the waterfront. I’m going/went to most of them (don’t like Weezer though) – I’m sure they’ll have fun!!
oh for Chrissakes, another bike lane thread? I am so fed up with that whole thing. All the fair weather athletes will be off the road in a few weeks anyway and we can get back to what roads are for.
Biff, I hear Skywalker has mastered the FORCE and will be showing up soon so best to get off the death star before he makes it explode to pieces

Biff, go for it. It might actually work out for you and it would never hurt to build new contacts and brush up some interviewing skills.
“Biff, interview. it’s a better use of your time than posting on blog with idiots like us.”
Best advice so far.

Biff, during the interview, find out of they’re hiring in the mail room and if so, tell them you’ve got a great hard working Chinaman for the gig.

FSRG just threw a bomb into the new bike thread lane. Here we go.
I love FSRG’s posts. He’s always pissed off about something.
