rf – I dropped the car off at Lee Bros this morning on my way in to work. Guy reiterated his quote of about a grand. (“could be a little more, could be a little less, but not by much”)
Yesterday I got a quote from Toyota of Manhattan (had to take it back there to get a key remote programmed, so asked them what the body work would cost). They said the entire door had to be replaced because it was bent and that it would cost “at least $3,300.”
Meanwhile I asked one of the guys at Lee about the bent door. He opened the door, bent it back by hand in about 2 seconds, and closed it again. Perfect fit. And then he said something like “yeah, so like I said, just replace the mirror and this other thing, touch up over here and you’re done.”
m4l — that’s why I 2/3 agreed with you. Just pointing out the warts. Dolan’s been committing basketball malpractice for years. Wilpon doesn’t know what he’s doing, but in a more benign way. At least Mets are reasonably competitive a fair amount of the time. But neither holds a candle to George. Would love to have someone like that running Knicks.
Well, Benson, you have a certain perspective (I always interested in the “be a man” perspective because as a first class complainer and woman, it never occurs to me). I was very sorry to see Torre go. But Girardi is doing a very good job.
You are both more or less right. Steinbrenner always signed top notch talent, but not every manager could win with them or handle George’s and NYC’s pressure. Torre’s genius early on was his ability to shield the team and let them play, and manage well enough. His first few years were glorious. Then it did seem like he and team started to coast. Those negotiations at the end should have been quiet. If Yanks didn’t want him back they should have just said so and not tendered an insulting offer, but Joe should have handled that, and his book, with more class, particularly since class was his brand. That little feud must have been brewing for some time.

Thanks for the recommendation!
Interesting to see legion wistful for the days before the free market hit baseball.
