  1. “Life sucks sometimes and isn’t fair, that’s all.”

    Truer words were never spoken, jb. “No one ever said life was supposed to be fair. At least no one ever said it to me.” –Big Chill

  2. “Well, it does suck when someone can take a “better” job for free as an intern because someone else is paying their expenses when another kid, just as worthy, cant take the internship because they need to get a job that pays.”

    I have no idea WHAT you guys are talking about, but I happened upon this and totally agree jessi. When I turned 16, my father said something to the effect that “Play time is over. And now you’re going to learn the value of a dollar and what it’s like to work for a living.” And I was very, very fortunate that he paid my tuition (EXCEPT for one summer I tried something different, which he referred to an my “non-productive summer”), but I worked every summer, every vacation from that day forward, some summers I worked 2 — and 1 summer 3 — jobs.

  3. tho i guess it might be understandable to be an intern if you totally switch careers to see what it’s like.. but i swear there’s a gazillion 30 something year olds walking around who are career interns!!! and they all have nicer / bigger apartments than teachers!

  4. Cobblehiller;

    While I wouldn’t go as far as *Rob*, I wouldn’t be so sanguine about the internship thing, having seen it up-front myself.

    A good number of interns in corporate America these days are the kids of some higher-up’s friend or neighbor. They are able to round out their college or job application with a bullet-point that is not available to a person with no connections.

  5. “Rob, have to harp on you today. am disappointed you’re not applying yourself more (ie expect more from straight A student) but moaning about interns who’s willing to work for free to advance themselves.”

    If Rob were to take a non-paying internship, how would he pay his bills? Life sucks sometimes and isn’t fair, that’s all.

  6. Working with teens a lot of my peers try to be older brother/older sister type and cool. I go the other way and act like teens are this completely foreign group, like, “Ok, I can’t possibly know what’s going in your life, but here’s the run of the place.” Works very well.
