Well, it does suck when someone can take a “better” job for free as an intern because someone else is paying their expenses when another kid, just as worthy, cant take the internship because they need to get a job that pays.
I think I said, “No one can ever tell you you’re a slacker.” Was intended as a quick story that I’m proud of because I’m terribly tongue-tied. If they were offended or talked down to, they didn’t tell me when they thanked me afterwards.
“please, i would have donate 700 if i was getting rent checks from mommy and daddy too. interns blow.”
Typical bitter response from you, Rob. These kids are clearly motivated to learn something new. They took a non-paying job to do it. It’ll look great on their resumes. And they’ve learned about an area of work that may or may not appeal to them in the long run but they took a chance, showed up and did well.
Jester, I am sure it came out great. If you get a bunch of successful, generous adults getting together to share their knowledge and their time with young people for the sake of their learning, you are going to get good results. I really admire the fact that you do that.
OK, IJ. But “disadvantaged” shouldn’t mean they are slackers, or stupid or unambitious.
I take “disadvantaged” (how you described these kids) to mean they come from poor households (economically). In many cases (although not all) that has little to do with their relative intelligence or ambition. Are these kids just poor, or are they truly “slackers?” If they are just poor, you’re kind of talking down to them.
That was just for the purpose of retelling here on the OT. I actually said something involved about them not being slackers anymore and to realize they can be ambitious.
the older ladies (35 and above) who were showing off their hard bod, round & round of applause from me. much appreciated. I respect & appreciate that more than the hot bod’s of young ladies who has super high metabolism on their side (for now). see tons of folks with “get away Friday” attire – guess hamptons will be swampped big time and pray you’re going there via helicopter else stuck in traffic

Why do you have to sh*t on everyone and anyone?
Rob, wouldnt doubt you would contribute to relief fund but not buying you would give 500 out of 750 if someone was paying your rent

One of my interns, when she received her $750 stipend, gave $500 to the Haiti Relief Fund. The audience gasped when I told them that.
