Or even move closer not farther since a shorter commute will also enhance his life.
The facts, as available for study on line, show that CAFE I did indeed reduce national fuel consumption. It does show that the price of fuel (obviously) will also effect consumption.
That’s why _both_ a tax increase and CAFE standards are needed to drive down oil usage for personal transportation.
Europe does it, and people live with it. And it has resulted in creating cars that are far more enjoyable to drive than a Ford Explorer, that’s for sure.

Nothing. Humans are marching inevitably towards using up all available fossil fuel on the planet. There is nothing that can be done to stop this. Might as well maximize your personal enjoyment of the orgy while it lasts.
Reducing energy consumption is kind of silly. If the entire United States reduced its consumption by some huge amount the third world would probably increase its consumption by an equal amount. And oil = development = power, and who the hell wants to share power with the third world? Why be the blade of grass that voluntarily declines to consume the fertilizer and gets killed off by all of the other blades of grass before the fertilizer runs out? Hell no. Use it up faster than the other guys.
