  1. “The cloud-capp’d towers, the gorgeous palaces,
    The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
    Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
    And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
    Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
    As dreams are made on, and our little life
    Is rounded with a sleep.”

    — The Tempest, Act IV, Scene 1, William Shakespeare

  2. Depends on the audience, benson. To you sports stars aren’t ‘deserving’, but to the fans of that team they may be. To some 10 year old boy or life long fan they totally are. Your view is too narrow, extend yourself a bit and try to see it from someone else’s shoes.

  3. CH;

    Ok, if it makes your day to call me grumpy, so be it. However, let me ask folks a question. Who is more deserving of a ticker-tape parade?

    a) a quiet, dignified ariline captain who cooly guides a disabled plane into the Hudson River and saves all on Board. The said capatain calmly walks up and down the plane twice as it is filling up with water, to make sure that there are no stranded passengers.

    b) steroid-filled athletes who are paid 10’s of millions of dollars to play a game, in between their product endorsements and having Kate Hudson or some other bimbo hanging off their arm. Unlike other businesses which typically give their customers some token of appreciation, said athletes expect that their fans owe them some type of parade of gratitude for doing what they are paid to do: win.

    According to our politicians who like to whore for votes, “B” is the choice.

  4. I worked with this group which developed a power trading platform – we travelled all over the place to the remote corners of this country and my coworker said HE WAS TERRIFIED by the super-nice local cab drivers (particularly in the Northwest). He was convinced they were going to drive him into the woods and kill him.

  5. Benson just has a visceral reaction to slobs and riffraff.
    Sorry Benson, I get this mental image of you leading a parade in a suit and a Fedora with a Banner “LIKE WHEN PARADES USED TO BE PARADES!!!!”
