– in most states no. 16 is fine. unless of course you paid.
Knowing what I know about church finances, which is quite a lot, losing tax-exempt status would not destroy religion as we know it and would likely pay off in other intangible ways, quite a lot.

I would ask you to stop making assumptions about what people are thinking. It reveals more about you than the person you are supposedly analyzing.
As a person who travels the world frequently, I know damn well what is going on globally. I am an American however, who is concerned about my country. I make no apologies about that. If you want to believe that that makes me myopic, or that I believe that American lives are worth more than others, than I once again submit to you that your assumptions say more about you then me.

Sorry if I misconstrued you. The other day I thought we were debating their very right to be there. I agree that their motives are less than pure (as stated above–its that tendency of folks to push the envelope on free speech at just the wrong place and time).
