DIBS–there is a concerted effort against the west in general (see London and Madrid), there is a concerted effort against Eastern powers who align with modernity (see Mumbai), and a concerted effort against Arab regimes who are not religiously based (see any number of recent incidents). I don’t think benson believes that American lives are worth more but I do think that there is a built in myopia in this country about such things.
“Americans do have special rules of engagement precisely because we aspire to be the beacon of the world.”
I think this is delusional on the part of the US. No-one sees the US like that, and the fact that the US sometimes represents itself that way just irritates people overseas. (It’s a great country nonetheless, just not some kind of moral ultimate).
Also the it would be impossible to demonstrate if we cannot protect our own citizens.
I got a haircut yesterday. Topics of conversation among the barbers and the other patron:
–Jehovah’s witnesses are stupid
–Scientology is science fiction
–what was that cult that killed themselves to join a space comet? [I answered that one, the Heaven’s Gate]
–certain vendor of theirs is a crook, wait til he gets here in the next half hour
–Yankees have no bench
–if you have a 16 year old girl and you stimulate yourself while watching her, and she gives you an ID that says she’s 18, did you do anything illegal?
jester, where do you get your haircut???
DH, no, but you mentioning it earlier triggered me going onto pandora to see if I could sample it

M4L – Have you heard the new Nas/Damian Marley CD that came out yesterday? It’s amazing.
*rob*, I think you should paint your room entirely with the blackboard / chalkboard paint! That’s what I want to do.
“what appears to be developing is a generalized anti-incumbent election”
