  1. I don’t have an issue with cyclists being ticketed for traffic violations. But I do have an issue with people who seem to have a general disdain for anybody on a bike. And I don’t agree with the few bad apples who drive recklessly and scream at and terrorize locals and tourists on the Brooklyn Bridge and elsewhere, but I can understand the frustration of someone trying to get around in a city that is not nearly as bike friendly as it could and should be. And the limited bike lanes that exist are often poorly marked and occupied by parked cars, which puts cyclists in a lot more danger than someone in a car.

  2. You know what impressed me when I went to Japan last time? Their use of the sidewalk under a highway or subway overpass. In NY, a sidewalk under an overpass is usually a dreary space, a no-man’s land. In Japan, they use these spaces for bike parking. Folks can park their bike under the overpass and it is protected from the weather. Pigeon poop doesn’t seem to be a problem either(that may be tougher to solve in NYC).

    bikes are dangerous.
I can recall a bunch of times
friends had their teeth knocked out skidding
into a dirt patch on one of them.
There was this psycho-kid in my neighborhood,
    his last name was Lynch.
rumor had it, that he had once eaten a dog turd.

    anyway,
he was known as the neighborhood Evil Kenevil.
he once jumped 12 milk crates on a Schwinn with
    a banana seat.
somewhere out there, someone has a photo of this
feat cause a bunch a kids winessed it and one girl
    had a camera.
he also jumped off the second story of a garage once
    and broke his leg.

Why should I have to pay to ride my bike?

simple. cuz we need the money big time? why should i have to pay taxes to smoke? why should i have to pay taxes so other peoples dumb children can get educations? i dont know, i just think moving vehicles, all of them, needed licenses if they are using public roads.. that’s all. bike away for all i care!!! nothing against bikes, just the lax laws for them. there should also be a Spaxex Shorts tax. that shi+’s more disgusting than diseased lungs.

Hating in cyclists is just a thinly veiled version of cane wagging.

Not for me it isn’t. it’s outright hate.

Freedom is the right to hate.

“Not when so many douchebags run right through the redlight. Sorry, no compassion. Too many of them don’t follow the rules.”

Wrong – I would say the % of car drivers who speed is much higher than the % of cyclists who run red lights.

I know you’re biased but at least compare apples to apples. If someone doesn’t look before crossing a street AGAINST the light and get hit by a speeding car that’s one thing.

But when cars are stopped at a light (and no other cars can come speeding through) and you expect the right of way and the douchebag on the bike comes between the cars and right through, that’s a different story.

They should be licensed (they are in many cities) and they should be ticketed.

THE PEDESTRIAN ALWAYS HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY.
