Jackal, if that’s how it really goes down, if that’s how we treat our own, then there’s no way that we don’t torture those on the other side. Debates on the legality of this are probably a big waste of time.
Lech, my friends younger brother emailed a video a while ago of him in Navy training when they pepper spray you in the face so you are accustomed to it and know what it feels like if you ever need to use it on enemy and then you have to fight or take swings at a cushion pad held by a drill sergeant to see how long you gonna last before collapsing while the rest of your crew cheers you on. It was pretty funny to watch sergeant screaming in the backround “You Damn Russki Jew Yankee, give it all you got you little commie bastard”. He is the only Russian speaker on his boat and the only one from North East in his class and when they were deployed off the coast of Russia, he was invited with the captain to go drink vodka with a higher ups in the Russian Navy and it got him major brownie points.

there is nothing ignorant about being able to call out when certain places are fawned over in ridiculous ways.
The closest I’ve come to that kind of group reliance is when staging convention meetings. Audience may vary from a couple dozen to many thousands. You have one chance to make it work. Often millions have been invested in the show. Crew is tired after elaborate set-up in poorly scheduled facility. Adrenalin levels are sky high. As director/producer I have to know that each person knows his job & can be relied on to “wing it” intelligently when a glitsch happens. That’s why you can talk a client into paying to have people & equipment sent all over the world instead of relying on local talent. Only metaphorical lives are on the line but it’s gut-wrenching – I loved it.
