um, of COURSE it does. to some people anyone who disagrees with the obama administration is a RAAAAAAAACIST no matter what. it’s so played out it’s not even funny.
Jackal – I have half a dozen friends who are knee-jerk Republicans & all but one are racist. (They’re people I went to school w/, not friends I’d’ve made under normal circs.) Some of them don’t realize they are but you can tell by the kinds of emails they forward that there’s a fundamental xenophobia in their makeup. It’s a small sample, I realize, but the endorsements on websites of what they send me indicates it’s a sizable population. I agree that probably not all the teabags are so inclined but I’d bet that a majority is.
Sorry, lechacal, that’s a very generous attitude toward your fellow Americans, but I beg to disagree.
There have been too many well reported incidents where racist or extremist statements or insults have been shown. Any thinking person would remove themselves from such an environment. I don’t think it’s fair to assign malignant attitudes, generally speaking, but in this case it’s been verified.
Photos of our President as Hitler? Or as “Hussein”, etc. Threats of violence. Bigoted statements. It’s too much. I just can’t stand for it.
I just got some take out for lunch and they threw in three plastic forks. I believe that’s a sign I overordered and/or their way of telling me I should consider portion control.
OMFG hahahah. i found a book on the street this weekend and i just finished reading yo mama’s dysfunctional and started this book i found called plastic angel… im like 1/4 of the way thru the book and im im wow this book is really good! and then i see on the inside cover it says “for grades 5-9” :-/ no wonder the font was so large.. should i finish reading it? how embarrassing, as ive been reading it on the train!!
Just to spell out my comment about assuming everyone holds their beliefs earnestly…
Obviously I don’t believe that most of the tea party people really understand the health care bill (then again nor to most of the bill’s supporters). But I do think the tea party types for the most part are motivated by an earnest belief in small gov’t and low taxes.
Montrose and Arkady, I disagree with both of your characterizations of the tea party people. And calling them racist? Tsk tsk. Surely you can see the irony of painting them all with this term and being unwilling to appreciate the depth and variety of the people. If one asshole shouted the “n” word, then one asshole shouted the “n” word. That doesn’t mean all tea party people are racist assholes.
