Legion, you misunderstood what I was writing. I was describing the thinking of the historian who wrote Nixonland, the book to which Slopey referred. The author, historian Rick Perlstein, had a very definate point of view about what Nixon did. You can agree with his thesis or not. I am writing a summary of his idea. It is a really interesting and well written book.
benson – As I pointed out the other week, I don’t actually believe in anything. So I’m basically bullshitting almost 100% of the time. But I am smug most of the time. Just ask Mrs Jackal next week, she’ll tell you.
“These debates would be 100% more awesome if we could include embedded pics and video and there was a hot mostly naked chick in the corner. I sure wish there were a blog where that could all happen.”
Why don’t you just create one? Put your money (and time) where your mouth is, as they say.
Folks should be like me and Lech. When I think he’s being too smug or just bullshitting, I call him on it, and vice-versa. Then I’m ready for a beer with him.
“Lechacal, it’s the Decorate Your Brownstoner T-Shirt Contest! If you didn’t get an official B-stoner tee, take a plain t-shirt and decorate it with whatever you like that relates in whatever way you wish to Brownstoner. Prizes will be awarded :-)”
I’ll let my 3 year old and 4 year old scribble some unintelligible stuff on a white t shirt with purple crayon. The theme will be “brownstoner political debate”.
Stop it, DH. Just stop now. Not another word.

ROFL! That would actually make an excellent shirt, Lechacal! And, you don’t have to wear the shirt if you don’t want to…just bring it along with you.

Actually I’ll be in a suit and tie, natch.
I feel better now that there’s been a big political fight and I wasn’t involved.
