  1. Ikea is much better than it used to be. Several of you have seen my apt…several ikea items. The stuff is super sturdy and actually fits into NYC sized apts. I had looked at several stores that sell what they call “NYC size furniture”, keeping in mind the typical small spaces. They wanted $3k or more for a simple couch. I’m all for paying that much for a couch…IN A PLACE I OWN. But I refused to pay that for a temporary living situation.

OK, thanks jester. I thlought there was a jester on a long time ago when you were still infinitejester.

I will remain daveinbedstuy. inbedstuy has less informational content.

Though you are too modest about your humble abode, you will always be diPRIbs (dave in PRIME bed stuy) in my mind.

  3. M4L, I’ll let you negotiate the bodyguard services for our immigrant agency. You’re way better at that than I am.

DH, most of West Elm stuff is fairly heavy cause a lot of their furniture is actually solid wood and is made pretty well.

IKEA started making much better quality stuff than they used to. The seem to have better and better quality every year, albeit at higher prices than cheapo stuff they make.

  4. quote:
“a family of four making as much as $50,000 will owe no federal income tax for 2009, as long as there are two children younger than 17,”

that is SO f’ing unfair it’s not even funny. i make under that, but i have to pay taxes because i choose not to breed? sorry that is just WRONG! people should be rewarded NOT to have children!!!

  5. Slope, question for you.

Have you any good sound people you have worked with? Recording/transcription services?

I have an analytic roundtable coming up that I must record and transcribe for a journal issue. One can find services on line fairly easily, but I’ve heard horror stories and can’t afford to risk it.

Actually, anyone? I can’t simply pop into Radioshack for said service 😉

  6. but this is not about Bush, it’s about this President’s total disregard for historical precedent.
Kennedy and Reagan both knew what to do,

-reduce the tax burden across the boardon those paying taxes
    -stimulate small business for employment
-gain more in tax revenues in the end

    EXACTLY. Basic economics.
