Ever price any trip on Amtrak, jessi??? They are not cheap. You could certainly fly to Florida for probably half of what an Amtrak ticket costs!!!!
And the order of importance at Amtrak is:
1. Employees
2. Trains
3. Passengers
There’s an entrenched union mentality there that will prohibit profitability. The believe they are in the business of running trains. They are not. they are in the business of transporting passsengers. the trains are incidental.
All the railroads in japan are publicly listed companies and quite profitable. yes, it is more of a train culture over there.

My local post office cannot even keep a stamp vending machine operational.
They make you wait on line for 30 minutes to buy a book of stamps.

Private companies faced with change make quick decisions to alter their business model.
Apple should have gone out of business years ago, once the MS/DOS based Windows became the dominant force.

I blame this government and this administration for not seeing the writing on the wall and using our tax dollars to continue their insane notion that banging your head against the wall will produce any other result than a headache. That’s the definition of insanity.
