MM…you just took the words out of my mouth re: why the PO is flailing these days. Except I think it’s a mistake to delete Saturday service. They should have picked a weekday.
A couple of weeks ago when this idea of reduced postal service was first floated, someone, I believe the Postmaster general made a comment that “it would hurt our brand.”
“Hurt our brand???” That’s one of the best jokes I’ve ever heard.
Legion, the woes of the Post Office are due to a lot of factors, including competition from UPS, FedEx and other carriers, and the growing use of email and other forms of communication. Electronic billing alone probably helped kill them. Of course there are other factors, including their own internal ineptitude, but to blame the government, by which I’m sure you are implying, Obama himself, is really innacurate. Losing Saturday delivery isn’t going to really hurt anyone, either.
exactly,
one one think that having a monopoly on the service,
the company could make a profit.
think of the privately held company Mars, which makes the snickers bar.
there’s only one company that makes it.
It tastes good and people buy it.
They don’t mess with the formula, they don’t have to do much but continue making the chewy, peanutty treats with just a hint of nougat.
And they make a MINT!
Thank God the government doesn’t make Snickers bars.
we’d be forced to eat some kind of imported fake nougat turd.
Almost all postal services around the world are having the same problem. Ours is constitutionally mandated. When I was a kid stamps cost 2 cents & we got two deliveries a day – same guy morning & evening – Mr. King who was a really nice fellow.

“Are there any that do???”
TARP?
“nah, it was cool hanging out those two times and talking for a bit, but we both wound up losing interest in each other’s lives.”
Well, maybe you can at least get together for birthdays and stuff. Can’t hurt to check in once in a while.
“Another government run operation that can’t make a profit.”
Are there any that do???
Thanks jester, working on that now. In fact, gotta go and do some work. Be back later.
