Legion–the things you cite as procedural outrages are classic parliamentary style deal making. Its called governance in the absence of micro-level agreement.
wasder,
and thank goodness the founding fathers accounted for that “citizen outrage” in the system of checks and balances.
but you see, what is going on if you look closely
is a series of challenges to consitutional law,
everything from
-reconciliation procedure (supposed to be used for budgetary matters only)
-federal mandates on interstate commerce
-vice presidential power in shutting down debate in the senate
-the authority of presidential executive orders to superceed existing law, as he used to buy Stupak’s vote.
the list goes on.
there’s something going on here….
what it is ain’t exactly clear…
Sad to say, my fellow doctors, the deplorable AMA, which in truth only represents 17% of the medical profession but which stands at any given opportunity like bobble heads next to the president when he wants to feign doctor support.
laughable.

Whaaa!!!! The President isn’t LISTENING to me!
Sorry Legion, I couldn’t resist. This is just TOO good. Best Monday in a long time!
“Hmm…where was this penchant for fiscal responsibility when the last president was borrowing billions of dollars to pay for a personally motivated and unnecessary war? I wonder.”
AS the young people say “Oh Snap!”. You are hot today ENY.
pete,
that 10 tax on tanning beds is just one of the ridiculous ideas in this bill,
you know who was bought off with the “tanning” tax?

I’m not being ideological here, just practical.
If we cannot pay for it, we cannot pay for it.
Is anyone here watching what is going on in Greece?
American credit ratings are set to go down by the way, others are watching.

Legion–I disagree that we currently live in a center/right nation. But the question of whether the majority of citizens is behind this or not is important to you or me philosophically but not important at all on the practical/governance level. One has elections and then the winners of the election drive the agenda. if it is well received they win more time in office, if it is not, they get voted out. There should be no outrage that they passed this–this is what their election entitled them to do. Now I happen to believe that the majority do want this sort of reform but the next two elections (the 12 one more IMO) will tell if the majority wanted it or not.
No legion- this is not payback. This is about putting the blame where it belongs instead of trashing Obama and the Democrats over and over again. And you’re right- you can’t run a party on payback. Hopefully the GOP will learn this.
As for the basics of the bill- as I said, how am I to believe what the Republicans are saying? There are other sides and interpretations, including the CBO. You keep ignoring this. As for “fiscal reality,” again, considering the complete fiscal irresponsibility and delusion of the Bush years how do you imagine the country will now trust the Republicans again? Isn’t it the height of delusion to have driven us nearly into the ground and then have the chutzpah to complain about how we are going to climb back out of it?

This is why the Tea Party will blow up in the face of the Republicans….
