  1. Very good, Cobble!

    Dave, sorry to keep interrupting your flirting with my finance questions, but (a) LMAO and (second) why do you need a guise – this is the OT after all, just flirt with m4l directly and shamelessly, and save the guise for gatherings.

  2. etson is right,

    I want healthcare reform;

    -tort reform
    -portability of insurance across states
    -health insurance industry accountablilty to patient’s rights
    -limits on malpractice insurance industry premiums increases without regard to claims history
    -tighter fraud control
    -tighter abuse control
    -tax incentives for self-employed
    -health savings accounts
    -development of a risk pool
    -accurate accounting of actual number of individuals
    in need of healthcare plans.

    it’s just that this 3000 page bill doesn’t address most of these reforms. It just expands government’s intervention into healthcare and undermines what is working in medicine.

  3. legion- I think you know the situation is more complex than that. Especially Guantanamo. Suffice it to say Obama is more resilient and more sensitive to other points of view than Bush. I like having a President who will go slower on certain issues if he hears a differing opinion with merit. Had Bush done that we wouldn’t be in Iraq.

    And sorry guys- have to sign off. Things to do- including getting together pictures of my work to send to an art gallery that wants to carry it. So verklempt right now!

    benson, don’t worry. I destroyed the prints and negatives of you in the handcuffs. Thanks for the check 😉

  4. Slopey;

    I’m back again. The auto insurance comparison is a complete canard (and I believe you know it).

    -No one forces you to get a license. A license is a privilege, not a right. In SOME states, if you want that privilege, you are required to have insurance. Moreover, the required insurance is not for YOURSELF, it is to protect other people to whom you may cause life, limb and economic loss by driving on publicly-owned roads. You are not required to protect yourself against economic loss to obtain a license.

    -What is being proposed here is to force people (at risk of penalty and/or jail) to take out insurance to prevent economic loss due to illness.

    It is unconstitutional, and will be struck down. Where in the Constituation does it say that the government can force you to buy insurance to protect your own economic well-being?
